Making an application

Once you have decided to apply to a Waverley School Direct programme, get started on your personal statement – see the Eligibility section to see what we are looking for. We want to see a passion for teaching (and your subject, if secondary), commitment and a genuine interest in young people. Get someone else to check what you have written for accuracy and clarity.

Liaise with your referees so they are ready to upload references when you need them to. If you are a university student, one reference must be from a tutor who can comment on expected grades. The best referees will be able to comment on your potential for teaching, so if you have worked in a school please ask the Headteacher to give you a reference. All referees should give a workplace email address, we cannot accept references from family or friends.

You can apply for all our programmes via the DfE Apply service

If you have any questions or need help, please ask! Contact details are at the top of this page.

Working with local HEIs

Waverley Education Foundation Schools also work with Higher Education Providers (HEIs) to offer placements to trainees on university-led PGCE / PGDipEd courses in both primary and secondary phases. We have a strong track record of providing excellent experiences for students from the University of Birmingham, Birmingham City University, Kingston University, Staffordshire University, Wolverhampton University and Newman University, as well as trainees on other School Direct programmes.
